Responsible Business

// Responsible business

Our commitments.

A road, a bridge or a tunnel outlives the people who build it. We hold ourselves to four commitments on every site: the safety and well-being of our people, the sustainability of what we build, the innovation that improves it, and our responsibility to the communities our work runs through.

[01] Health, safety & well-being

Health, safety & well-being.

Our safety standards are designed not only to meet compliance requirements but are inspired by genuine concern for people. With a stringent set of safety protocols and practices, regular training and awareness programmes, we equip our employees to rise above potential risks.

Every RKC site runs a stringent set of safety protocols, with regular training and awareness programmes, so that our people are equipped to rise above the risks of heavy civil work: live carriageways, deep excavations, blasting underground and lifting at height.

  • Site-specific safety plans and daily tool-box talks
  • Traffic management for work beside live highways
  • Ventilation, gas monitoring and controlled blasting in tunnels
  • Medical cover and welfare facilities on every site

[02] Sustainability

Sustainability.

RKC has consistently embraced environment-friendly practices. We collaborate with employees, stakeholders and partners to drive positive change, and we continue to prioritise sustainability and lead by example.

We build to take less from the land. On the Pandharpur–Sangola concrete highway we used 100% manufactured sand instead of river sand, protecting river beds from mining. In the Matheran eco-sensitive zone the expressway goes under the hills in a 4.16 km tunnel, so the forest above stays where it is. Materials are sourced locally wherever possible, cutting transport emissions and putting work into the districts we build in.

  • Manufactured sand in place of river sand
  • Tunnelling under, not cutting through, sensitive terrain
  • Local sourcing and local subcontractors
  • Dust, noise and water controls at every plant and quarry

[03] Innovation

Innovation.

India's first 102.6 m single span in Ultra-High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete was built by RKC — one span where two or three would once have been needed, and no piers in the water.

We adopt methods that make structures lighter, faster to build and longer-lived: precast UHPFRC superstructures developed in collaboration with Malaysia, mechanised drill-and-blast tunnelling on an eight-lane scale, and survey and machine control that keep every layer of a pavement to design. Our technology partners bring the machines; our engineers bring the method.

  • Precast UHPFRC single spans
  • Eight-lane twin-tube tunnelling
  • Machine-controlled paving and grading
  • Digital survey and BIM on major structures

[04] Corporate social responsibility

Corporate social responsibility.

Since 2018 we have earmarked 2% of our profits for the welfare of communities — rural education and welfare, temple restoration across Maharashtra, and local procurement that brings employment to the youth of the regions we build in.

Our commitment is to leave a positive mark on the places our roads pass through. Site teams offer work placements to local students, help restore local temples, and run awareness campaigns promoting education. Procurement is kept local wherever it can be, bringing employment to the young people of the region.

  • 2% of profits earmarked for community welfare since 2018
  • Rural education and welfare programmes
  • Temple restoration across Maharashtra
  • Local procurement and employment
