Building with less taken from the land.
RKC has consistently embraced environment-friendly practices. We collaborate with employees, stakeholders and partners to drive positive change, and we continue to prioritise sustainability and lead by example.

[01] Materials
No river sand in the concrete.
River sand mining scours river beds and shifts the flow of water, with floods and dried channels downstream. For the 31 km Pavement Quality Concrete highway between Pandharpur and Sangola, RKC used 100% manufactured sand instead, and set up a sand production plant with washing systems at Pandharpur to make it. The pavement is as strong; the river is untouched.
- Manufactured sand in place of river sand
- Our own crushing and washing plant close to the works
- Recycled and reclaimed material where specifications allow

[02] Terrain
Go under the forest, not through it.
The Bhoj–Morbe section of the Vadodara–Mumbai Expressway crosses the Matheran eco-sensitive zone. Rather than cut a corridor across the hills, the alignment goes beneath them in a 4.16 km twin-tube tunnel. Wildlife keeps its corridors on the surface while eight lanes of traffic pass underneath. On NH-12A in Chhattisgarh, where much of the road runs through forest, construction was planned to keep disturbance to a minimum.
- Tunnelling beneath sensitive ground
- Spoil handled and placed to plan
- Working within forest clearances and seasons

[03] Distance
Source locally, haul less.
Materials are bought from local manufacturers and local subcontractors are engaged wherever the work allows. It cuts the kilometres that aggregate, steel and cement travel, and it puts the project’s spending into the district it is built in. RKC’s own crushing units, from Phaltan to Chilphi, sit close to the works they supply for the same reason.
- Local procurement and subcontracting
- Crushing units placed near the works
- Dust, noise and water controls at every plant and quarry
[04] In practice
What we hold ourselves to
- 01Manufactured sand rather than river sand wherever the specification permits
- 02Dust suppression, noise limits and settled water discharge at plants and quarries
- 03Topsoil saved and re-laid; slopes turfed and planted after earthwork
- 04Fuel and plant efficiency tracked across a fleet of more than 500 machines
- 05Working within forest, wildlife and river clearances, and their seasons
