[01] About the project
Pandharpur, on the banks of the Bhima in Solapur district, receives about a million pilgrims during the Ashadhi yatra. The road to Sangola was one of the weakest links between the two towns, with traffic forecast to grow sharply.
RKC began work in 2017 to upgrade the entire 31.158 km to a Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) dual carriageway, widening the urban sections to four lanes, for the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways through the Government of Maharashtra (MSRDC).
Scope of work
- 31.158 km of rigid PQC dual carriageway
- Urban sections upgraded to four lanes
- 12 bridges and structures
- A toll plaza, and water and electrical utilities
No river sand
For the concrete pavement RKC used 100% manufactured sand instead of natural river sand, protecting the river beds from the damage that sand mining causes. A sand production plant with washing systems was installed at Pandharpur for the purpose.
